Senior Buried Facility Locating Technician

ASK Line Locating Ltd. provides locating services for underground utility facilities in the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry. Additional services include ground disturbance supervision, permitting and GPS work. 


Senior Buried Facility Locating Technician: This position includes locating underground utilities, mapping, sketching and communicating your findings.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 -Must be able to read site plans, area maps and blueprints.

 -Utilize site plans, area maps, blueprints, computer mapping database to facilitate locate of underground facilities.

 -Locate and mark buried facility locations and communicate relevant information to excavation personnel or other appropriate authorities.

 -Operate line locating equipment, including metal detector and GPS.

 -Attend safety and tailgate meetings at project sites or office to discuss and plan daily activities.

 -Attend training, health and safety, or other professional development courses or sessions as required.

 -Provide accurate documentation and/or sketches with measurements using an electronic drawing tool and GPS device.

 -Maintain accurate records of work time and client identities to allow proper assignment of charge codes.

 -Operate company vehicle in a safe manner, and maintain professional appearance.

 -Transport locating equipment and supplies to assigned job sites; clean and maintain locating equipment.

 -Adhere to all health and safety protocols and procedures, including completing daily safety forms and reports.

 -Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications & Education: High School, Diploma or Certificate.

Experience: Prior locating experience (5+ years) and certification

Certificates/Licenses: 

 Valid Alberta Driver's License.

 Valid First Aid and CPR

 Valid WHMIS

 Valid H2S Alive

 Valid ATV Training

 Valid Global Ground Disturbance Level II

Skills/Abilities: 

 Ability to read and update maps. 

 Comprehend data and information accurately. 

 Working knowledge of excavation/ construction/ locating/ computer.

 Handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

 Ability to work safely in high traffic areas. 

 Operate line locating equipment and metal detector. 

 Ability to assist and support others. 

 Must maintain ethics and integrity in all areas of job duties and responsibilities.

We maintain an in-house training program that assists in the development of new locating technicians with very good working understanding of locating concepts, operational procedures, and field safety practices. New locators receive additional training on utility mapping, computer and internet operations, wireless communications and the development of a positive, professional attitude. Company cellphone and vehicle (if required) is also provided to locators to help them in effective performance of job duties.
